A wu is a group of kuei-jin who are bound together, usually by their Court, for some common purpose. The members of a wu are usually, though not always, bound together by a totem spirit called a nushi.

Unlike the coteries of the Western Kindred, the wu is much more fundamental to kuei-jin society, especially since many wu last the course of decades or centuries and will accumulate a number of members over that time. Ideally, the members of a wu will represent the five different directions and dharmas according to the needs and the purposes of the wu, although a rare few wu instead represent one specific dharma exclusively.
