The World of Darkness Moderated chat got its start just prior to the official release of the Storytellers ran small scenarios intended to demonstrate the way the new system worked in a practical sense, via combat rolls and other interactions. It was not intended to last longer than a few months, and closed around the same time the two core rulebooks were released.and , as the aptly-named "Vampire: The Requiem Demo Chat." Following the release of the new system's core rulebooks, the chat relaunched as the "World of Darkness Moderated Chat," more familiarly known as the "WOD Mods," or simply "the Mods."
The chat opened with two settings, each based on the signature settings for each individual game line. Mortals and all supernaturals were welcome in the World of Darkness: Chicago chronicle, based on the book by the same name. Vampires were presented with a solo chronicle, City of the Damned: New Orleans, likewise based on the book.
As new core rulebooks were released, additional chronicles were opened. All supernaturals were still welcome in the crossover city of Chicago, while the major releases got cities dedicated to solo play. Werewolf opened with, and Mage got .
