Memorable Quotes[]

"That's not the part of him I'm interested in. I just want to get me one of these silver fangs of his. I keep hearing so much about how these Silver Fangs are better than everyone else. I figure they've got to be talking about the teeth."
Arkady's face exploded in white-hot pain as the foot smashed into it.
He lost consciousness again and when he came to, he was bleeding freely from the mouth. From the feel of it, the extraction had taken more than one try. He was still being dragged by the arms but could not tell how long he had been out.
"Sleeping beauty's up again," said a familiar mocking voice.
"Would have been easier on him if he'd just stayed out. You wanna kick him again?"
"No. I cut my damned heel the last time, getting those teeth. And you know what? They're not even silver! What a gyp. Come to think of it, it looks more like a red talon to me."
"Well, if you'd wipe the blood off of it..."
"You can't trust them damned Gaians for nothing. They can't even name something without bragging or lying or both. Why, I once got a peek at a damn Black Furry - down below, I mean - and it wasn't even..."
"That's Black Fury, you idiot. Not Furry."
"No, it was furry, all right. What I was trying to tell you was that it wasn't black!" - Pg. 46

"Go to hell," he said.
"An interesting choice of words," the wind said, shrugging him off. His body immediately resumed its headlong fall. "Hell - coming right up." - Pg. 58

No!" Arkady howled. His lunge toward the bird was so wild, he himself began to tumble and he lost sight of it as he struggled to right himself.
"Wait! I didn't abandon you. The winds, they tried to make me, but I didn't. I..."
The voice he heard then did not carry up to him borne on the rushing wings. Rather it seemed to come from somewhere inside him. It was deep, rumbling, resonating along his very bones and filling him up with its vastness.
"AND I," said the voice, "NEVER ABANDONED YOU." - Pg. 59-60

The Lady will await you on the spiral.
"Well, let her wait." - Pg. 67-68

It was only then that Arkady knew the dark purpose to which this Temple Obscura had been built and consecrated. It was a refutation of all the Garou held dear - the counterpart and utter negation of their cherished Silver Record. This was the hole where the stories bled out of the world. - Pg. 76

"You promised," she accused. "That you would not leave me."
"I have left them all," he said. "Only I hadn't realized it until now. My family, my sept, my tribe - the entire Garou nation. I am nothing to them now. It is as if I never existed."
"You will not," she said pointedly, "leave me behind so easily. I let them all go down into darkness alone - to walk the Black Spiral and challenge the forces of Malfeas itself. I will not do so again."
"I am not one of your children, Samladh. I am of Falcon's tribe."
She shrugged. "I have seen the falcon wheeling overhead. Its path is a gyre - the same spiral walked by my children. As above, so below. Do not seek to lecture me on my own children. - Pg. 106-107

"No," Arkady explained in his most patronizing tone. "You are walking all over your pant cuffs. I am currently in the Temple Obscura, walking the Spiral. The fact that you and the boy wonder are here should be ample proof that I am, in fact, in hell."
"Hey, that's pretty good," Evan interrupted as Albrecht fumed. "Ask him if he wants to borrow my Bat Wyrm repellant." - Pg. 117

He cursed. "If being a king means leaving Mari to die alone," he said, "then fuck being the king." - Pg. 132

"I have Falcon's blessing in this Albrecht," Arkady said. "I am doing what must be done to redeem his people. Our people. I don't ask for your blessing, or even your understanding. All I want from you is the Silver Crown. I need the crown." He started forward.
Albrecht stood his ground. "What you need is a good ass kicking." - Pg. 129

"Yeah, and what about the choice I didn't make? What about Arkady?"
"Maybe," Evan said, "Falcon also needs a king to walk the Black Spiral." - Pg. 134

When first I tore from Gaia's womb, I was called me Full-Moon's-Pelt,
(Although born within the House of the Crescent Moon)
For they hadn't seen a coat to equal mine
In a score of generations.

Driven from my home, denied my heritage
Amid whispers that I was Dark-Moon-Born -
Conceived in a forbidden union
Between Garou and Garou,

I turned my back on my own people,
And descended here into darkness
To carve my mark, upon the Wyrm itself if need be
And to win back my birthright.

Three things only I demand, before life is done -
A piece of land to call my own
A thatched house, swept spick and span;
Not a hut for dogs or cattle.
And three silver coins, each as round and bright
As the three moons that were
Stripped from me.

Long years I have wandered here in darkness
And forgotten the way home, if ever I knew it.
My claws have blunted, my eyes grown dim
And now I can no longer fight, not
Even recite my own tale
With my own voice.

And there is not one single
Moon to shine
Here on the Spiral.
There is no
Moon. - Pg. 139-140 (Poem)

Here, at last, was the hidden spirit that animated the Temple Obscura, Arkady realized with sudden clarity. This was the great spirit to whom that altar was built and consecrated. The Temple Obscura was the place where stories came to die, and this Jo'cllath'mattric was the devouring spirit that obliged them. - Pg. 143-144

No, it was not enough for Arkady to remember what had transpired here. That would not buy them their lasting impression, their immortality. He had to make the Wyrm itself, eternal and unchanging, their witness. To force it to remember - or more precisely, to ensure that it could never forget.
With a bellow of challenge that shook the spiral itself, Arkady brough his klaive flashing down. As one, a legion of Silver Fang heroes leaped forward, following him along the same path the Dark Lady had taken only moments before, hurtling themselves headlong into the teeth of the Wyrm Trying to Forget. - Pg. 149

Cries Havoc peered at him as if he couldn't believe his eyes. "But there're no such thing as were-wolverines!"
"No, there ain't," Hairy Foot said. "You can call me Kwakwadjec." - Pg. 200

"Somebody answer me," John said. "You can't all want to actually do this thing. I'm telling you you(sic) don't have to anymore."
"Did somebody hear something?" Julia said. "Like the buzzing of a very annoying fly?"
"Ignore it," Cries Havoc said. "It's just the voice of a twisted conscience."
"But..." John began to say.
Quiet, Storm-Eye said, lying in the back in her Lupus form, low enough so passing cars couldn't see her. We have clearly made a choice. No more words. - Pg. 216

Evan looked at John. "I think you'd best wake the others. Cries Havoc is going to have to practice some tale telling. He's got quite a chilly audience."
John leaned on his spear, looking up at the sky. "Bad pun. It looks like I'm going to have to start living up to those high expectations petty quickly. I just hope there's a good wind at my back." - Pg. 233

"Oh, Father, I don't know if you can hear me, but tell me the last tale was a lie. Tell me the Phoenix did not speak of our doom." - Pg. 284
