Tezcatlipoca is an entity often believed to be vampire that was part of the ruling supernatural clique in the Aztec empire.

Biography[]

According to the Great Stone, Tezcatlipoca had lived in the valley of Mexico even before the Aztecs under the guidance of Huitzilopochtli had arrived. Having existed since the time of the Toltecs, Tezcatlipoca had at an unspecified point before waged war against Quetzalcoátl, but even he could not stand against the united might of Huitzilopochtli and Tlaloc, a creature believed to be either a demon, spirit, or ghost anchored to the lake where Tenochtitlan stood. Eventually, he submitted and was accepted as part of the ruling elite.

Tezcatlipoca soon became decadent, being fed by sacrifices of blood by his worshippers. When the Europeans arrived, the early Sabbat believed him to be a methuselah and sent word to Europe for reinforcement. Unlike the other rulers, he thrived on the suffering of the population that the European pestilences had unleashed and survived the end of the Aztec Empire. He harassed the Sabbat for several centuries before he was apparently destroyed in 1691. The Tremere antitribu under Goratrix took credit for the act, but no one proved able to verify that claim.

Nature[]

The Sabbat claims that Tezcatlipoca was a vampire. Héctor de Velasco, one of the first Sabbat in the New World, claimed him to be a "reflection of what the mirror would not show others" and the "cast-off countenance of a Blooded being so powerful even its reflection refused to fade". Velasco believed him to be the mirror image of a powerful Lasombra that somehow attained a physical form.

Despite being classified as a Lasombra by the Sabbat, Tezcatlipoca differed from them in several aspects. His command over shadows was unlike Obtenebration, being able to create solid objects from darkness that withstood even sunlight and using shadow-like proboscis to feed itself from subjects. While in his temple, he was even able to be active during the day.

Speculation[]

With the reveal of the Drowned Legacies, Tezcatlipoca might have been one of their numbers.
