[Tzimisce] vs. Tzimisce[]

As noted on the Antediluvian page, it's standard practice to refer to an Antediluvian as [Name] so as not to confuse it with the clan; especially when the real name of the Antediluvian is not known.

The Toreador Antediluvian, for example, may be referred to as Arikel or as [Toreador]. Since we don't have another name for the Tzimisce Antediluvian, we must refer to it as [Tzimisce].

So please don't "correct" these instances. They are not malformed links, they're intentional references to the Tzimisce Antediluvian rather than the Tzimisce clan. --IanWatson 23:33, 24 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Etymology[]

Do we have any canon etymology or hints as to where the name "Tzimisce" comes from? I came across a reference to a (real) "John 1 Tzimiskes" recently, but don't see much relation betwee the two. Just curious. 50.30.49.11 20:53, February 5, 2013 (UTC)

Never heard any explanation for any of the clan names, though that would be a good question the next time White Wolf does an AMA on Reddit! Moogle001 (talk) 04:04, February 6, 2013 (UTC)
The word Tzimisce may be an original spelling by a creative White Wolf author, but it is derived from one [or more] of various related Eastern European words meaning "dragon", such as the Romanian word zmeesc.  The name Tzimisce then means "Dragon", and it is a veiled allusion to the name Dracula, which means "Son of the Dragon".    - Thanateros 2013-Feb-8th
Oddly enough, on page 244 of the Clan Novel Saga Vol. 2, a member of the Sabbat states that it is pronounced 'Shimishay'
"[...] and that includes Miss Freaky Leaky Tzimisce.” “Shimishay,” said Terrence, who was tall and lanky and wore John Lennon granny glasses that he never quite managed to get the blood off. “It’s pronounced ‘Shimishay.” ". Zach9054 (talk) 06:18, September 11, 2015 (UTC)
