From the White Wolf Wiki, the most complete White Wolf reference

Can't help but notice that the formatting problem with unordered lists in the date templates is rearing its head again; the text renders as monospace both here on the day's page and when it appears on the front page in "On This Day". I'll see if I can find anything about it (I've been reading up on Wikis since I now also have my own, which is also running on MediaWiki). -- Benjamin 13:14, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Further to this...it seems it's definitely to do with the ref tags. I removed the first one to test it and the formatting error didn't occur until after the second. For some reason the ref tag screws up the rendering of the ordered lists, causing them to indent further than they should and eventually making the text monospace. This doesn't happen when viewing the template, only when seeing it included in a page; I've tested this on Firefox 2.0.0.3 and I.E. 7, and while both render the text slightly differently, they both show the same problem.
