[edit] Redirecting

Wouldn't it make more sense to redirect the names for the Antediluvians to (clan) Assamite instead of the other way around? Especially when some have multiple names, and none of the names given can be officially called THE name. It'd also make for a more universal system. Moogle001 9/3/2005.

All the way across the site, the real name, if known, is always used. The Aberrant character Caestus Pax, fr'ex, redirects to Shelby Eisenfaust. Doctor Primoris and Divis Mal both redirect to Michael Daemon Donighal.
So when possible, we're going to do the same thing to the Antediluvians. In many cases, a "real" name is known. Absimiliard's a good example. Where there are multiple names, we use the one most commonly referred to. Where the name isn't known at all, that's when we'll fall back to the Clan (Antediluvian) format.
This is a universal system; universal across the Wiki rather than just specific to the Antediluvians. IanWatson 17:03, 4 Sep 2005 (UTC)
The trouble, in my mind, comes from dealing with individuals such as Toreador, Ravnos, or Ventrue. Choosing between Arikel and Ishtar is an arbitrary choice, for instance, and whether Ventrue's name is Veddhartha or not is still really unclear. The Ravnos believe their Antediluvian is Zapathusura, while almost every other supplement calls 'em Ravana. And when Obfuscate 9 is Create Name, Absimiliard can easily be an alias. Taking into account these ambiguous cases, choosing a name seems to add bias to one interpretation over another.
In any case, I'll work to whatever format you'd like, though since I'm planning on working on those entries I'd appreciate some instruction to do with those cases above. As a side question, how do you add the date to your entries? Moogle001
Okay, I'll take these one at a time... I prefer Arikel over Ishtar, as Ishtar is the name of a (Babylonian?) goddess. Whether the goddess was created in [Toreador]'s image or whether [Toreador] took Ishtar's name is another issue, but as far as I know, Arikel is a unique name.
It's unlikely that [Ventrue]'s name is Ventrue or Ventru, and I believe Veddhartha is the only other name we've heard there.
I believe the revised Ravnos clanbook explicitly calls the Antediluvian Zapathusura (and who better to know the name of their own Antediluvian?), while it mentions Ravana as a seperate Methuselah.
Gehenna has extensive coverage of the Antediluvians. If they name 'em something, we'll stick with those names.
Signing your name is, as described in the various help files (and Paw Prints done by typing four tildes (~~~~). Three tildes can also be used, but doesn't provide the date/time, I believe. IanWatson 00:45, 5 Sep 2005 (UTC)
