Seven Thunders

The Seven Thunders of the Coming Apocalypse were a European religious movement who believed the Apocalypse was coming in 1500. The movement dissolved when the apocalypse failed to materialize, but the prophecies of some of the leaders were rediscovered in 1992.

Renaissance

The Seven Thunders were not so much a single organization as a movement with seven distinct leaders. They were united by a mix of genuine prophetic gifts, True Faith, and an anti-establishment zeal that attracted the poor and the downtrodden. Their goal was to cleanse the world ahead of Christ's return, and both the Order of Reason and the Traditions in Europe were valid targets.

The sorcerers behind the Seven Thunders were:

• Friar Girolamo Savonarola of Florence
• Antonio Castrovinci of Prato
• Father John Ploughman of England
• Vicento Giacomo of Spain
• Glaucus of Rome
• Fredrich die Festung of Bavaria
• Friar Phillipe de Gascon of France

Some members of the Seven Thunders took to extreme asceticism, living in the woods and smearing their faces with ashes, but most were regular members of their communities who nevertheless took up the cause of smashing whatever their spiritual leaders wanted smashed.

Three of the seven were killed by mages before 1500, one became a Nephandus, and one (Savonarola) was executed by the mundane Church for his heresy. The movement dissolved when 1500 came and went in a decided non-apocalyptic manner.

Modern Nights

In 1992, the prophecies of the Seven Thunders were re-discovered, and a new movement with the same name sprang up, this time setting the date of the apocalypse in the year 2000. Once again the world did not end on schedule, but at least some of the modern Thunders are aware of the Imbued, and have come to suspect that they are ones carrying out God's cleansing mission, not the Thunders themselves.
