A geomancer and proponent of 'feng shui', Mao was alive in Hong Kong towards the end of the 19th century. He hoped he could teach the barbarians about being harmonious with the energies of the island, but soon grew to hate the barbarian devils and their outright disregard for the ancient practices of geomancy and was greeted with mockery when he attempted to correct the mistakes of the architects and builders. He persisted anyway until he became a nuisance to one of the construction foremen. Mao came home one night after a fruitless meeting with an architect only to be assaulted and buried alive in the foundation of an inharmonious building.
Mao Lun's P'o howled and clawed its way back, angry at the horror of his premature internment and lack of burial. Mao soon showed the foremen who assaulted him what in meant to be harmonious and inharmonious joint after joint before feeding and casting the corpse into the harbor.
Accepting his fate, Mao joined Anguo Chun against the terrifying Ghost-Killer and now acts as Anguo Chun's advisor and with him targets buildings within the district for demolition, including the Christian church he died under, for demolition to create a more harmonious Hong Kong.
Mao Lun mainly busies himself with the proper placement of graves and burials sites. In fact he is sought after by many of the Kuei-jin population. Secretly he looks for the havens for the Kin-jin (or Kindred), so that one night he may implore all his powers against them. He stands by Anguo Chun though he feels that Chun is not working fast enough against the barbarians.
"A spindly-legged man in his mid-40's, Mao Lun presents a unprepossessing image. Dressing in ill-fitting Western suits, he seems to disappear in a crowd. His features are bland and innocuous, concealing a keen and vengeful mind. He wears his hear a little long for Western tastes; but too short for traditional styles." WODHK, p.59.
