Dr. Lawrence Mayhew is the leader of a coterie of surviving Ravnos and leads excavations in India to unearth the true history of his clan. His own inner vice is that he is addicted to plagiarism.

Biography[]

An Oxford educated archeologist, Dr. Lawrence was fascinated in India from an early age. During one of his excavation trips to the subcontinent, Mayhew came to the attention of Jayakumar, a Ravnos of the Brahman caste who took an interest in Mayhew's activities.

At first, Jayakumar approached him as a fellow scholar and discussed India at length into the evenings and on to the morning. It was not long before Mayhew's erudition and curiosity convinced Jayakumar that he would make a good Ravnos of the Brahman Jati. Of course, Jayakumar did not consult Lawrence in advance. Jayakumar arranged events to appear that Dr. Mayhew had died in a terrible accident.

Mayhew himself was brought to Jayakumar and subjected to the ritualistic Embrace favored by Brahman Ravnos. He adjusted quickly to his new state, although he bitterly resented the loss of daylight hours. The fact that human frailties no longer troubled him was much more of a boon at first. Jayakumar wanted Lawrence's counsel on the West, preparing for the final onslaught of their Wan Kuei enemies.

When his sire finally sent him away after having learned as much as he could, Dr. Mayhew did not object. He left for America to put as much distance between himself and India as possible, something that saved him during the Week of Nightmares. He managed to insinuate himself into Harvard's faculty and spent several decades comfortably ensconced within its halls.

Appearance[]

Lawrence Mayhew is a fit gentleman, apparently in his early 30s, with dark brown, precisely trimmed hair, and brown eyes. He likes to wear conservative business suits when not digging in tombs.
