In 1851, the Artificers, and the larger Order, underwent reorganization and emerged as the Technocratic Union. The Artificers were re-christened as the International Brotherhood of Mechanicians. This lasted until the later years of the 19th century, when the Union overhauled itself yet again. The Mechanicians became Iteration X, in honor of their self-aware Computer, which had acheived artificial intelligence on the tenth iteration of its recursive self-improvement program.
