Hunter: The Vigil
From the White Wolf Wiki, the most complete White Wolf reference
The back of the Changeling: The Lost Rulebook, officially released August 16, 2007, has a teaser advert for the sixth World of Darkness game.
The advert features a piece of paper, resting on a flat surface. At the top of the piece of paper is the phrase:
Light in Shadows
Below that, there is a wordsearch. A list of words to find in the search is not provided, but all of them are terms from various World of Darkness games. Once all the words have been discovered, what remains are a series of X's and other letters. Removing the X's and reading the other letters in order produces a message:
thehuntersarrivetwothousandeight
Or:
The Hunters arrive: 2008
Near the bottom, there is an unknown object resting on the corner of the paper, which cannot be clearly identified. The advert finishes with the caption "Coming Next Year".
A press release on January 2, 2008, revealed that the new game's title is Hunter: The Vigil, and that a quickstart for the game would be released by White Wolf as part of Free RPG Day on June 21, 2008.[1] This confirms long-standing speculation that the game would be a re-invention of the old World of Darkness's Hunter: The Reckoning, though White Wolf staff are on record saying that the game's concept is very different from that of the previous Hunter game.[2]
The Hunter: The Vigil rulebook is scheduled for release in August 2008, with five supplements to follow, one supplement a month for the next five months. Three of the supplements will be crossover books, each looking at one of the three 'main' World of Darkness games - Vampire, Werewolf, and Mage. A fourth supplement will be called Slasher. There are as yet no details on the final supplement.
There will be two Hunter: The Vigil quickstarts; one will be the Free RPG Day release, while the other will be released at some other point. [3] At least two Storytelling Adventure System modules are scheduled for the game. A Hunter: The Vigil board game is also on the schedule, to be released a few months after the rulebook. [4]
With the announcement of the new Hunter, Wraith: The Oblivion, Mummy: The Resurrection and Demon: The Fallen are left as the only oWOD game lines yet to be reinvented for the new World of Darkness, although it could be argued that Mummy has been re-interpreted as part of Promethean: The Created (q.v. the Osirans).
