House Tepet is one of the Great Houses of the Scarlet Dynasty.

Overview[]

House Tepet descends from the Scarlet Empress's consort, Tepet, a scion of a Shogunate-era gens who attempted to invade the Imperial Manse in RY 362.[1][2][3] They control the dominion of Lord's Crossing on the Blessed Isle, and the city of Lord's Crossing is their primary residence.[4] The house retains many Shogunate-era traditions and aesthetics, and their even-handed rulership has earned them the loyalty of their subjects in the Blessed Isle - though less so on in the satrapies.[2]

House Tepet was one of the few Great Houses with permission to raise their own legions during the Scarlet Empress's lifetime, fielding five legions and a mercenary force from its satrapies.[5][6] When the Linowan appealed to the Realm for support against the Bull of the North in 763, the Realm sent the Tepet Legions, commanded by Tepet Arada — a legendary general who had once defeated another Anathema in single combat. However, the legions were being undercut from the Blessed Isle even before the Scarlet Empress disappeared, with false intelligence and reduced supplies. At the Battle of Futile Blood in Ascending Earth 764, the Bull's forces routed the legions, slaughtering a majority of the House's Dragon-Blooded.[7][8][3]

Now, House Tepet has been forsaken by its allies, and different lineages within the House struggled for dominance.[9] Many of its satrapies, such as Pneuma, have been handed over to other Great Houses, either to repay the house's debts or because they can no longer defend them.[10] It retains control of one former Imperial legion: the Vermillion Legion, commanded by Tepet Ejava.[11] However, the Tepet custom of drafting janissaries from their Threshold territories gives them additional forces to call on,[12] and the House is frantically adopting outcaste Terrestrials from across the Threshold to replace the generations it has lost.[13] The only allies they have among the Scarlet Dynasty are House Nellens, House V'Neef, and, possibly, the fallen House Islesi.[14]

House Tepet primarily produces Air-aspected Terrestrial Exalts, though its adoption campaign has not discriminated based on aspect.[15] Its house colors are blue and white.[16]
