Gloomdrakes are hobgoblins thought to be born from a central, original beast —  itself born of the nightmares of a changeling who feared the dark more than she did her Keeper.

Overview[]

That little torch won’t help you here.

These Hedge-creatures dwell in the most lightless of caves and crevasses, and their bodies reflect this; Gloomdrakes’ bodies, roughly resembling a traditional dragon, seem to be composed of smoke and shadow. Their necks are ringed by a mane of hissing serpents, while their tails are tipped by a venomous stinger whose bite is soporific. They bleed darkness as an octopus would ink.

Gloomdrakes are collectors of riddles who, when an unfortunate traveler happens upon their dens, will challenge him with some of the puzzles within that collection. Only by granting correct answers and pressing the drake with new riddles can a traveler escape. Killing a drake is a difficult task, as dismembered limbs will regrow… and those limbs will grow into a new drake in turn. It can only be killed by piercing the brain or the heart, completely burning the entire body, or completely destroying it with acid or a similar substance. They are, however, as vulnerable to the magic of Contracts as most hobgoblins.

Venom: Those creatures unlucky enough to be hit with the sting must roll their Stamina + Medicine against the Gloomdrake’s Strength + Occult. A failed roll indicates they instantly become extremely drowsy (–2 to all rolls for the remainder of the scene).
