A persistent nuisance when traveling the Hedge, fae swarms are an indigenous form of insect life, usually but not always in the form of a swarm of bees.
Overview[]
“ | ≪Low, droning buzz≫ | ” |
The Hedge is populated by a wide variety of these swarming hobgoblins, and each swarm can be radically different than the next — some are particularly hard-working, others mindlessly aggressive. Interestingly, not all even appear similar to insects, instead taking the form of a snow flurry, scattered leaves, or bits of night sky.
Somnus[]
One "species" of fae swarm in particular has the notable effect of inducing drowsiness with its sting. Aptly named "somnus", this species spreads the effect of its poison to any goblin fruit that it pollinates, in addition to the fruit's usual effect.

*Sleep: Somnus swarms produce a substance that, when injected via a sting or bite, or mixed with a plant’s pollen during pollination, sedates those who come into contact with the swarm. Any individual affected by the Sleep Ability begins immediately to feel drowsy and sedated. Ten minutes after being stung, bitten or consuming Somnus-pollinated goblin fruit (and every 10 minutes for the next hour, until the effect has dissipated), the individual must roll Stamina + Wyrd – (swarm’s Stamina). Failure results in falling into deep, drugged coma for 12 hours.
