The Equatorial Wars were a series of conflicts in Central and West Africa during the early 21st century. Beginning around 2001, the "wars" began as minor unrelated conflicts between various political and tribal groups jockeying for power in their respective countries. For the first time in history (at least on such a scale), various warlords and dictators capitalized on the appearance of Novas and the amoral DeVries Agency by employing them in place of large armies. As many as a dozen or more novas participated in the wars and genocides, but Africa and the world were forever changed by the event as a whole.

The borders of Sub-Saharan Africa were redrawn as wealthier nations swallowed up the poor nations of Central and West Africa as result of the conflicts. It was also the first and only decisive defeat of Team Tomorrow.

The fledgling Team Tomorrow attempted to end the conflicts between Nova Elites and the devastation to baseline populations caught in the crossfire. The results were a disaster. Hiram "Slag" Goldberg was killed in the conflict and Pualani "Pele" Kapunani was seriously wounded. The whole operation was scraped, declared a victory in the media, and changed Team Tomorrow policy to prohibit entering a crisis involving enemy novas unless T2M outnumber their opponents two to one, or better.
