Einarr Flies-Like-Smoke was a disgraced Corax, the navigator of Leif Ericson, the first known European to have discovered continental North America.

Biography[]

Einarr joined Ericson's expedition in 1002 CE to steer him away from the Pure Lands at the behest of New World Corax. However, a storm forced him to steer the ship to the safety of American shores.

Einarr eventually felt that he had no choice but to help Ericson, who eventually visited the areas that Bjarni Herjulfson described to the Old World Corax. Ericson returned home a hero, but Einarr was derided among his people for his failure. The other Corax never forgave poor Einarr for his change of heart, and after a few years, he adopted human form more or less permanently so as to hide from his shame.

Einarr's long been in his grave, but his name lives on. Any time a Corax fouls something up spectacularly, he's referred to as a "Little Einarr." It is believed that Gaia, in her mercy, kept Einarr's soul from reincarnating, simply to spare him incarnations of abuse, because even a thousand years later, the Corax haven't forgotten.
