Cappadocius

From the White Wolf Wiki, the most complete White Wolf reference

Names: Ashur, Cappadocius
Clan: Cappadocian
Generation: 3rd
Sire: Irad (?)
Childer: Lazarus, Augustus Giovanni, Japheth
Allegiance: God

Cappadocius was sired in Enoch with the other Antediluvians, chosen for his intellect and his interest in matters surrounding death. As a clan founder, he was always a mystic and a dreamer, leading both to the grandiosity of his plans (diablerizing God) and the depth of his mistakes (the Feast of Folly). Cappadocius' name was an epithet for his point of origin (the Anatolia region of Turkey) rather than a personal name.

Cappadocius was unusually active for an Antediluvian; he embraced Christianity (although with his own particular twist), and was actively working with his childer until his final death. This was, in the end, his own undoing - he ordered the embrace of Augustus Giovanni, bringing the Giovanni in as a bloodline of the Cappadocians and blissfully ignoring all the evidence that his newest Childe was making a beeline for his throat (although it is possible that he knew from the start...).

Cappadocius was diablerized by Augustus Giovanni in 1444; he remained in the underworld as a wraith for centuries, until he fell to Oblivion and became a Spectre sometime in the 20th century. There is an alternate theory that deviates from canon as in the Gehenna book Ashur is mentioned as alive at the time of the Sixth Great Maelstrom, whereupon he is sucked into it — much to his childe's frustration as he can no longer complete his absorption of the Antediluvian's might. It has never been verified that Ashur is Cappodocius, as some theories hold he is either Saulot or an unknown "other." But in "Lair of the Hidden," the lineage of the Cappadocian Inconnu character starts with the name Ashur. Other names of Cappadocius include Abu Lazar, Sargon (e.g. "Clan Novel: Cappadocian") and Laodice (Sire of Mahatma/Byzar in "Children of the Night").
