Franklin: From a surname which was derived from Middle English frankeleyn "freeman". The statcoulomb (statC) or franklin (Fr) or electrostatic unit of charge (esu) is the physical unit for electrical charge used in the cgs electrostatic system of units. The SI system of units uses the coulomb (C) instead.
Dixon: Means "son of Richard" (Richard in turn means "brave power".
The inclusion of both "Benjamin" and "Franklin" is likely meant to imply that Professor Dixon was named after Benjamin Franklin.
