Anson Maddocks is an illustrator for science-fiction and fantasy games and other publications.
Biography
Anson was born in Anchorage, Alaska in 1968, his family moved to Sitka, Alaska when he was 6. After graduating from Sitka High School, Anson attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks for 1.5 years before moving to Seattle, Washington at age 20 where he attended Cornish College of the Arts for another 1.5 years. Anson left his studies at Cornish to pursue a variety of freelance illustrator projects which eventually connected him with Wizards of the Coast, at the time a small fantasy role-playing game publisher in Kent, Washington. Anson, since that time, has become a world renowned artist in connection with Magic: The Gathering, a collectible card game (CCG) created by Richard Garfield for Wizards of the Coast.
Anson Maddocks also has the distinction of being the close friend of Mark Tedin (another popular artist for Magic: the Gathering). The two artists grew up together in Sitka, benefiting from a healthy sense of competition between each other artistically.
