Affinities are the most common and least-draining abilities of the Arisen in Mummy: The Curse, as opposed to the more powerful Utterances. Unlike vampiric Disciplines or werewolf Gifts, Affinities typically manifest spontaneously in mummies, whether remembered from a previous cycle or refined from the creature's five-fold soul. They only occasionally require spending Willpower, and sometimes do not even require a roll to activate the Affinity's effects.
Affinities which manifest as a function of the Arisen's soul require a preexisting refinement of the five-fold soul. A mummy must meet the affinity's prerequisites (a minimum rating of one or more Pillars) before manifesting that affinity, meaning that soul affinities are somewhat dependent on the character's Decree.

The twisted affinities of the Shuankhsen that spring from their master Ammut, though the Arisen can also make use of them at the cost of their souls. The prerequisites for bane affinities are maximum Morality ratings, which is not a problem for the twisted servants of the Devourer but can spell the unraveling of a mummy who serves the Judges. These affinities are cursed and dramatic failures when using them can cause degeneration rolls, occult afflictions, or worse.
Examples of bane affinities from the Mummy: The Curse Rulebook are:
- Ammut's Feast (Morality - ): The mummy devours a human heart to recharge his supernatural resources.
- Blood Cartouche (Morality - ): With a ritual involving the full name of an ally, the mummy gains the ability to share wounds and ailments with that person.
