• By this year, it becomes obvious that Wycoff's Hastings blast: all crops exposed to the secondary blast wave would no longer grow, or grew mutated. The area becomes known as the Blight.^[1][2] Farmland five kilometres southwest of Worthington is among those that falls into disuse in the wake of the Blight.^[3]
• The United States invades Canada, ostensibly for its marginally healthier farmlands, but in essence because the US needs Canada's geographical and financial resources for the ongoing Aberrant War.^[4] The invasion is done with the assistance of Quebec in exchange for its sovereignty.^[5]
• Federal intelligence agencies begin consolidating operations as they find themselves desperate for resources.^[2][6]
