Events[]
- Wizards of the Coast drops Ars Magica.[1]
- White Wolf laid off fifteen employees. Those included are Trace O'Connor, Tim Byrd and Jennifer Hartshorn. Steve Wieck cites that it was his fault due to the company growing too fast in 1994/1995 and added too much staff at that time.
Hardest hit by the cut-backs were the fiction and card game lines due to a downturn in both the publishing industry and card game market (See Cancelled Projects for both 1996 and 1997).[2][3][4] - White Wolf Game Studio publishes Vampire: The Dark Ages, a Storytelling game of Gothic horror.
- White Wolf goes after Virtual Magic Inc.'s Spheres of Ascension for being "confusingly similar" to Mage: The Ascension.[5] Which lead to Virtual Magic renaming it Spheres Tarot.[6]
- White Wolf sets up a Rage Legacy Vote, in where people can vote on their favorite character to return more powerful in Rage's Legacy of the Tribes expansion. The winner turns out to be Questor Treetalker.[7]
- Atlas Games picks up Ars Magica to develop a fourth edition set for October.[8]
- October 12th is declared as "Rage Across America" Day to promote Rage's Legacy of the Tribes expansion. At least 1,200 stores took part in the promotion.[9]
