Garou Tongue

Like every culture, the Garou have a common language called the Garou Tongue (or High Tongue or High-Falutin) that can be used in their Glabro (partially), Hispo (partially) and Crinos (full) forms. It serves that a Lupus born Garou, who never learned a human language, can communicate with a Homid born (or even that two homids can understand each other through the language barrier). As such, it is mandatory for cubs to learn the language after their Rite of Passage. The Garou Tongue often involves instinctive actions, accented by pheromones, growls, and whines. Some of these words require partial transformations of the vocal chords to be pronounced.

The Fianna are generally credited with inventing the language or at least making it popular among the nation. Each tribe can communicate with the other, although each has a specific accent. In addition, the Garou have specific Howls that are used as special expressions. Other Fera have their own specific languages that are similarly difficult to replicate.

A

• Adren: A pupil/student that learns
• Aisling: A quest into the Spirit World
• Anamae: literally "soul-friend", the bond with a Pack Totem
• Anruth: A Garou that travels between Caerns, but is not bound to a specific one
• Amharm: "Song/Speak," the Fianna name for the Garou Tongue.
• Athro: Teacher /mentor
• Awen: The sacred Muse, the creative impulse. Some say she is a spirit, but she has never been found.

• Brugh: A place with mystical properties, regardless of affiliation (can refer to a Caern, Pit, Glade, or similar locations)

C

• Charach: An insult to describe any Garou that sleeps or has slept with another Garou.
• Cliath: A young Garou without any significant rank

• Gallain: A term used for Kinfolk

H

• Harano: Inexplicable gloom, inexpressible longing for unnameable things, weeping for that which is not yet lost. A depression that afflicts the Garou

• -ikthya: literally "of the Wyrm", as as a suffix appended to a name

R

• -rhya: literally "greater of station", used as a suffix appended to a name

T

• Taldakh: Omega, the one with the least station in a pack

U

• Uldakh: Beta, the second-in-command of a pack
• Urrah: literally "the Tainted Ones", a derogatory term for Garou that spend most of their time in the city, often applied to Glass Walkers and Bone Gnawers

Y

• -yuf: literally "Honored Equal", used as a suffix appended to a name

Z

• Zedakh: Alpha, the leader of a pack
